On Monday, April 17th, the Istanbul Finance Center, which is expected to become one of the leading financial centers in the world, was inaugurated by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The announcement was made by Treasury and Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati, who took to Twitter to express his excitement about the occasion. In his statement, Nebati declared that the Istanbul Finance Center, a monument befitting Turkey’s centennial year, is a significant milestone on the path to becoming one of the world’s most important financial capitals. The new finance center is now a part of Istanbul, and he wished the country and city well.

Furthermore, the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, and the AK Party’s Istanbul 1st Region’s 1st Place Member of Parliament candidate, Murat Kurum, visited the Istanbul Finance Center for inspections ahead of the opening ceremony with President Erdogan. In his statement, he emphasized that the project was an essential step to transform Istanbul into a financial capital, a safe and resilient one, given the potential earthquake risks that the city faces. Kurum expressed that he and his team had worked hard on this project for almost 10 years, and he was very excited to see it finally come to fruition. He hoped that the center would bring value to Istanbul, Turkey, and the people.

The Istanbul Finance Center’s construction had received particular attention and dedication from Berat Albayrak, who served as the Minister of Treasury and Finance at the time. He had expressed his belief that Turkey’s capital markets were expanding, and the investment community was growing. In 2020, Albayrak had declared that working to increase the variety of financial instruments and to expand Turkey’s capital markets were important. Additionally, he had stated that Istanbul was perfectly suited to become a financial capital.

Finally, the opening of the Istanbul Finance Center coincided with another historic moment for Turkey, with the arrival of natural gas from the Black Sea. The energy project is one of Turkey’s most significant and will help the country reduce its dependence on foreign energy imports. The inauguration of the Istanbul Finance Center and the arrival of natural gas in Turkey marked a momentous occasion, giving Turkey hope for a bright future.
